Zebeta Dosage and Administration
The dose of Zebeta must be individualized to the needs of the patient. The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. In some patients, 2.5 mg may be an appropriate starting dose (see Bronchospastic Disease in WARNINGS). If the antihypertensive effect of 5 mg is inadequate, the dose may be increased to 10 mg and then, if necessary, to 20 mg once daily.
In patients with hepatic impairment or renal dysfunction, the initial daily dose should be 2.5 mg, with caution in dose-titration. Dose adjustments should be made in increments of 5 mg and at intervals of at least two weeks. For chronic stable angina, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily, up to a maximum of 20 mg daily. Heart failure starts with 1.25 mg once daily, adjusted based on patient tolerance and response.
Contraindications for Zebeta
Zebeta (bisoprolol fumarate) is contraindicated in patients with cardiogenic shock, overt cardiac failure, second or third-degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place), severe bradycardia (less than 50 beats per minute), severe hepatic impairment, and history of bronchospasm, asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It should not be used in patients with metabolic acidosis, hypersensitivity to bisoprolol, pregnancy (especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters), or lactation. Combining Zebeta with certain medications like other beta blockers, heart medicines, or asthma drugs can lead to adverse effects and should be avoided.
Zebeta Side Effects
Zebeta, also known as bisoprolol, is a beta-blocker medication used to manage high blood pressure and heart-related conditions like angina. While many people tolerate Zebeta well, some may experience side effects. Common side effects of Zebeta include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, depression, headache, nausea, impotence, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, numbness, tingling, cold extremities, sore throat, shortness of breath, wheezing, and increased asthma symptoms.
In rare cases, serious side effects may occur, such as severe allergic reactions, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeats, fainting, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and signs of heart failure like shortness of breath, swelling of the ankles or feet, sudden weight gain, or fatigue.
If you experience any of these serious side effects or if the common side effects persist or worsen, it’s crucial to seek medical attention promptly. Your healthcare provider can help assess your symptoms and adjust your treatment plan if needed to minimize side effects.
Remember, this information serves as a general guide, and individual responses to medication can vary. Always consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice on managing side effects and optimizing the effectiveness of your treatment with Zebeta.
